Are directory submission sites loosing their charm?
SEO Chat member maddiipm asked Are directory submission sites loosing their charm?
This was an interesting question seeing as directory submission is one of the most basic back link building strategies and is in common use among many SEOs. Some members agreed that they are losing their effect and don't consider it an effective strategy, other SEOs said that they still work. This was an interesting question given that it questions one of the more basic and common SEO strategies.
In my opinion directory submission to relevant niche directory sites is appropriate. There are some useful and SEO friendly directory sites in some industries. There are many techniques for determining the best industry specific directories to use.

How significant is page load time?
A member asked how significant page load times are. This is a topic that has been addressed and discussed in the past and falls under the realm of usability and user retention. The deabte over page load time has gained momentum again.
I believe that page load time is a factor in the ranking algorithm, and this is alluded to when ou consider that Google Web Master Tools shows site performance and gives you an indication as to how well your sites load time is compared to other sites. I also believe it is very difficult to get any quantifiable data on this metric. The general consensus is make sure your site loads quickly and you will be OK, this is good practice in any event.
